This evening I attended an event at Cape Carteret's Mac Daddy's.  The Carteret Chamber of Commerce September Business After Hours Program was held to celebrate the first anniversary of the opening Mac Daddy's.

Mac Holz, the owner/proprietor, told me that he was very pleased with Mac Daddy's first season.  The expectation is that more and more people will find out about Mac Daddy's state of the art facility.

Not long ago we often heard the lament that there was nothing for the young area visitors or residents to do on a rainy day at the beach. 

With the opening of Mac Daddy's, that complaint about the Crystal Coast has disappeared.  With bowling and a fantastic arcade, there should be something for almost every youngster up through the teenagers.

There is also a sports bar for the parents and plenty of tasty food.

Tonight we sampled their kettle chips, pizza, wings, and ribs.

All week we have had our standard blue skies and white puffy clouds in the morning followed by more ominous clouds in the afternoon.

Today we lost our blue skies, but not before I cooked myself by mowing the yard at noon in full Southern heat.  I know better to mow in the midday heat, but sometimes you run out of options.

It did get partly cloudy this morning and by later in the afternoon, we had full cloud cover courtesy of Tropical Storm Danny.

I was working hard this morning and early afternoon to get a contract on a property.  So instead of starting to mow, I was waiting by the telephone.  I took advantage of the time and responded to someone considering moving to the Carolina coast.

Finally with the phone not ringing and noon approaching, I left my wife in charge of the phone, donned my straw hat, and let the heat wrap its arms around me.

The Sixth Annual Story Telling Festival will take place on Wednesdays, July 8, 15, 22 and 29. Performances will be at 10am at The History Place, 1008 Arendell St., Morehead City, and at 2pm at Cape Carteret Aquatic & Wellness Center, 300 Taylor Notion Road, Cape Carteret. Saturday June 6th was the day picked to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the incorporation of Cape Carteret.   The town with a number of supporters put together a great festival on the land along Highway 58 between Ribeye's Steak House and the Golfin Dolphin.

There were plenty of arts and crafts booths, lots of fair food, some entertainment for the kids, and music for the adults.  We saw everything from old fashioned pickup ducks for prices to hand carved decoys.  Someone was even selling flounder gigging lights.

A full day of family fun and entertainment is being planned for Cape Carteret's 50th anniversary festival, which will feature children's activities, three bands and arts and crafts vendors on June 6.
