It looked like we were going to have a cloudy misty day today. It was sprinkling rain when we got to church and when we left church.
We were finishing the celebration of my wife's September birthday by heading over to Rucker John's to have lunch and collect her free birthday brownie and ice cream.
Lunch took a little longer than we expected, but we had nothing planned so we headed home for a Sunday afternoon nap while watching a little footfall.
About the middle of the afternoon, I noticed that the clouds were disappearing and the sun was in control of the sky.
I started a quick campaign to go to the beach. After some initial resistance, I was successful. We loaded the beach chair and my two surf rods and headed over to Emerald Isle.
As usual there was only one car in the Third Street parking lot so I was encouraged that we would have the beach almost to ourselves.
There was just one group of people on the beach, but the waves were far stronger than they had been at the end of the week. In fact they had cut a shelf into the beach.
I went ahead and try my luck at casting plugs for a while, but the water was too stirred up and the current too strong to have any success.
I finally put the rods in the car, and we went for a nice beach walk. There were a lot of birds out on the beach, and I got some great bird shots, including one of a New Jersey seagull.
We headed back home just after sunset. Glenda, my wife whipped up some blueberry and pecan pancakes while I cooked some Neese's sausage. Pancakes on Sunday night was a tradition in Maritime Canada where we lived for several years.
They often served baked beans with them, but the pancakes, sausage, and orange juice did the trick for me.
It looks like we have a great week of weather head of us here on the Southern Outer Banks as long as the winds are not too strong.

I always like to start the week with my feet barely out of the salt water.
