The Calm of a Summer Morning

When summer comes, morning becomes a time to get up and get moving early.  In the South, if you miss the morning work window, you risk heatstroke during the heat of the day.

In June morning is nearly perfect here on the Crystal Coast.  The temperature was around 75 degrees when I walked out my driveway to get this morning's newspaper.  The birds were singing all around me, and there was just the touch of a light breeze.

Just as I got to the end of the driveway the sun was coming up over the pines and hit our Crape Myrtle which started blooming last week.  The sunlight spread to a lantana full of blooms in the front of the bed.  Mixed with the sounds of the birds, I could hear the carpenters up the street working on a new home in Bluewater Cove.

I walked across the cul de sac to see if the boat that someone dropped in the water for an early morning fishing trip had made it out.  The boat was gone while their vehicles were waiting for them to return with some Spanish mackerel.

I continued out our boardwalk to catch a ful view of the quiet morning waters on the White Oak.  The White Oak looked glassy smooth.  I started wishing that I had gone fishing this morning just so I could have taken that smooth morning ride down the White Oak to Swansboro.

Unfortunately I have to work this morning so my fishing will have to wait until later in the day.  I will have to be satisfied with a slide show of an early morning trip that we made down the river last June.

Morning is one of the best times on the coast.  It makes getting out of bed easy.
