If it looks like winter and it feels like winter....

It must be winter.  This morning marked the first time that I have ever seen snow flurries here at the beach.  We were away earlier in the week, but ran into some snow squalls just before we crossed Interstate 95 on our westward journey.  Apparently those snow flurries also made it here.
We were over on the beach yesterday.  I wanted some taffy, and we stopped by the Sweet Spot.  The girl looking after the shop told us that she had seen her first ever snow flurries earlier in the week.  Being from California, she had never seen snow.
This is certainly extraordinary weather.  Our neighbors in Roanoke, Va sent us a picture of snow that was on the ground there on Wednesday morning.  We lived in Roanoke for nineteen years, and I can only remember a couple times when we had snow on the ground in November.
The very first winter we moved to Roanoke, 1989, snow came just before Thanksgiving and actually stayed on the ground until Christmas.  My wife and I were talking about it yesterday.
Since we had just moved down from Canada in 1987, the snow on the ground made Roanoke feel very home-like to us.
Finding snow when moving to the mountains is not much of a surprise.
However, seeing snow flurries at the beach is a big surprise.  The good news is that the temperatures are in the forties so we will not have to worry about seeing any accumulation.
I just want our warm weather to return.  I was counting on some more fishing this fall.
