Proof the Red Drum are here

When I headed to work this afternoon, I passed the house of Brian, one of my fishing buddies.  He had his skiff in the driveway and was ready to head out.

He told me another friend was driving a couple hours so they could try the fishing over in the Inlet.

I wished him well, and headed off to work.  Work was pretty dull as real estate can be these days.  I knocked off a post about What is so special about the Crystal Coast and set up the showing for one property.

I left work five minutes early so I could meet my wife at our church, Cape Carteret Presbyterian, to have our pictures taken for the church directory.

That took longer than expected so we headed off to gas up both vehicles and then to Andy's to grab a burger for dinner.  Dinner was great and quick, and we motored off towards Bluewater Cove as the last of the day's light started to fade.

I stopped along the way to pick up a Carteret News Times.  Just as I was coming through the gate at our subdivision my cell phone rang, It was Brian's wife, and she asked me if I wanted to see some fish.

Of course I replied yes, so she told me they were at the day dock cleaning fish in the dark.  I hurried by our house and found them over at the dock working on their day's catch.

They had already cleaned a number of Bluefish and were pondering how to clean two nice slot sized Red Drum.

After questioning them, I found they had also released a bigger drum.  I was tickled to see that they had gotten into some serious fish for two reasons.

One is that Brian could use some diversion since he is a builder in the midst of the housing collapse.  The second is that I knew I would get an invitation to head out tomorrow to wherever they had caught today's fish.

After my morning meeting tomorrow, if all goes well I will be fishing. Just maybe I will have a chance to catch that nice Red Drum that I have been hoping to hook this fall.
