A thunderstorm ends thoughts of another beach evening

I had high hopes for another wonderful evening on the beach.  I figured that I had earned it by not only mowing the yard in the heat of the day, but by also writing an Applepeels post which was my second in two days.

We were just getting ready to think about heading over to the beach for an extended afternoon and evening trip when the skies begin to darken.  I checked the weather radar, and the stormed appeared to be headed right for us.  We decided to wait which was a good thing.

The skies opened up, and we got hit with a deluge. It was so impressive that my wife and I stood on upper porch and watched it for a minute or so before lightening drove us inside.  I managed to capture a couple of minutes of video on my Panasonic Lumix DMC ZS-1 camera.  I posted the video to YouTube as a good example of a southern thunderstorm.

Even after the storm slowed down, we continued to have light rain.  I ended up grilling our inevitable chicken in the rain.

The rain was an inspiration for a post, Carpe Beach Diem, that I did at Crystal Coast Living.  We really do have to grab every opportunity to get to the beach as the fall speeds through here.

It is going to be hard to get in all the fishing and beach time that I need in order to hold me until the water gets warm again next May.  I will be diligent in trying to not miss a single opportunity.

The storm that hit us was impressive.  We were in the upper eighties when it hit, the temperature dropped nineteen degrees in just minutes.  When I checked last evening we had received over 1.5 inches of rain.  That puts us at well over a foot of rain for September.

I think that is plenty of rain for one month.  The good news is that the forecast for next week looks stunning, almost too good to be true which I hope is not the casie.
